Caroline Fortunato is a graduate student at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, advised by Dr. Byron Crump. She studies the spatial and temporal variability of microbial communities in the Columbia River, its estuary, and the adjacent coastal ocean. On the ROCA project, she will assist in sample collection and analysis of the phylogenetic and genomic diversity of microbes across the river to ocean gradient of the Amazon River.
