At the dock entrance.

Have you ever watched an ant mound as the workers go back and forth carrying little parcels on their backs? That’s what the deck and labs onboard the RV Knorr looked like today. Except instead of ants, it was members of the research team and crew ; instead of little parcels there were what seemed like an endless quantity of plastic storage tubs, boxes, and equipment. What couldn’t be moved by hand was lifted by crane!

After a full days work in the sweltering heat, we headed out to the nearest eatery. Tish Yager had rented a car at the airport when we arrived. To our surprise the steering wheel was on the right hand side. You know what that means: you drive on the “other”side of the road!

It was a long, productive day. Now the work begins to set up all the equipment and materials that were in all those boxes :)

Stay tuned!

Question of the Day

  • Do the bacteria in the water make us sick?

Only a few of them.  Bacteria are in every habitat on Earth, growing in soil, hot springs, radioactive waste, water, as well as in organic matter and the live bodies of plants and animals. Bacteria recycle nutrients, with many steps in nutrient cycles depending on these organisms, such as nitrogen fixation.
